PRIDE Industries Offers "Ability Matters" Publication

Roseville, Ca. Mar 29, 2011 - PRIDE Industries, one of the nation’s leading employers of people with disabilities, announced today the release of “Ability Matters,” a guide to employing qualified people with disabilities. Compiled with input from local leaders, “Ability Matters” helps businesses gain the competitive edge by achieving diversity in the workplace.

Disabilities don’t discriminate; they affect people across all racial, gender, and socioeconomic lines. In fact, people with disabilities are the nation’s largest and most diverse minority. If you do not currently have a disability, you have about a 20% chance of becoming disabled at some point during your work life.

“Ability Matters” was developed by PRIDE Industries in collaboration with the following organizations; The ARC of California, ALTA California Regional Center, Work Training Center, Inc., California Disability Services Association, Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce, and Unisource Worldwide, Inc. The guide plainly addresses topics ranging from business advantages to recruitment and hiring, as well as support services, tax incentives and realistic workplace accommodations.

“The fact is that people with disabilities are assets, not liabilities to an organization and its bottom line,” said Matthew Mahood, President & CEO of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. “In reality, people with disabilities don't cost more to employ, are proven to meet or exceed challenges, have lower turnover and relate well to customers and co-workers. This doesn't just make social sense, hiring people with disabilities is an equation for expansion, profitability and mutual success.”
