PRIDE Industries’ Andrew Weissenberger Receives National Recognition
May 18, 2014 – Sgt. Andrew Weissenberger, Retired, U.S. Army and a PRIDE Industries employee, has been honored with the 2013 National AbilityOne® Honor Roll for Veterans with Disabilities Award. The award presentation was made Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the SourceAmerica® National Training and Achievement Conference in San Diego, CA which celebrated the outstanding workplace achievements of a number of individuals with disabilities employed through the AbilityOne® program.
Andrew Weissenberger is a former U.S. Army combat engineer whose service included the Gulf War, three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. During his last deployment, he was hit six times with improvised explosive devices; the last sent him flying 40 feet in the air resulting in traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries, a fractured hip, damaged knee, and lifelong residual impacts. Recovery was a long and difficult process. He was, however, determined to be self-sufficient.
Connected to PRIDE through his vocational rehabilitation counselor, Weissenberger joined the company in 2013. He is employed as a service order dispatcher on PRIDE’s base-wide operating support services contract for Fort Rucker, AL. He aspires to someday establish his own nonprofit organization to help other veterans with disabilities regain as much independence as possible.
His motto: “never quit; never give up”, is the driving force behind his success. “Andrew’s resilience, great work ethic, and determination inspire all who work with him,” said Kim Curry, General Manager, PRIDE Industries, Ft. Rucker.
