Position Summary:

Under close supervision Custodians perform a variety of functions to assure that facilities are clean and free of safety hazards. This job class requires knowledge of custodial practices and the ability to complete daily tasks. Employees may be required to work in confined spaces and in aseptic areas with exposure to dirt, dust, odors, chemicals, and infectious disease; and may work in high security areas with protocols. Employees may also be exposed to, depending on the weather, elements such as wind, rain, cold, and heat.

Greater Sacramento Area | Bay Area | Vacaville Central Valley | Los Angeles

Pay Range:

  • Greater Sacramento Area: $15.75 – $18.03 per hour depending on contract/worksite
  • Bay Area: $20.30 – $26.96 per hour depending on contract/worksite
  • Los Angeles: $18.49 – $19.35 per hour depending on worksite
  • Central Valley: $15.75 per hour
  • Vacaville: $29.00 per hour (Prison Environment)
  • Stockton: $21.00 per hour (Prison Environment)

Typical Duties:

  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture following safety protocols and infection control procedures.

  • Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors and stairwells.

  • Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, biohazard waste bins and cigarette urns.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill restroom dispensers.

  • Assist with the setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies, and use them as directed.

  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn specialized methods of cleaning and utilizing a wide array of cleaning/sanitizing chemicals.

  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment (vacuum, backpack vacuum, cardboard bailer).

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions/requests from team, customer, and others.

  • Ability to follow instructions.

  • Ability to display effective customer service skills.

  • Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team.
